Emilio Perez Digitally Conquers Times Square With ‘Dream Season’

Emilio Perez’s pulsating, semi-tropical, abstracted images have taken Times Square for the month of November in his latest video installation for the Midnight Moment series. Titled Dream Season, this marks the artist’s first animated video installation, and will provide spectators with a three-minute visually-enrapturing experience nightly from 11:57 PM to 12:00 AM.  Perez’s Dream Season embraces his core artistics practices – painting and drawing – while also exploring an organic relationship to musical rhythms and vibrations. Applying a hypnotic color palette of magenta, fuchsia, violet, aquamarine, and other bold shades, kaleidoscopic color relationships seamlessly blend into mesmerizing digital compositions.

Located in the heart of Times Square, an ubiquitous site of commercial frenzy and media overload, Dream Season evokes sensually fluid and cosmic movements, providing a respite from its usual frenetic pace. This iconic location also signifies the former starting point of the first transcontinental highway connecting the East coast to the West coast.

Perez, a New York native inspired by the throbbing energy of the city, translates those sentiments well through his visual vernacular, leading viewers on a transportive, emotional journey. In the artist’s words, “Making a painting is easy but the challenge to make it move was uncharted territory for me. I was inspired by the boundless energy of the city and the thousands of people from around the world that will see and share this moment with me.”

To round out this unique event, Perez and Pace Prints in Chelsea have created a special screenprint (in an edition of 50), derived from the artist’s galactic and electrifying large-scale video installation.
