Williamsburg Bridge: The Williamsburg Bridge connects the Lower East Side of Manhattan to Williamsburg, a neighborhood in Brooklyn. The Williamsburg Bridge was the second bridge built to cross the East River and construction began in 1896. The bridge opened on December 19, 1903 at a cost of $24,200,000 and at the time was the longest suspension bridge span in the world.
