Valdir Cruz’ ‘Presences’ at Throckmorton Fine Art

Throckmorton Fine Art: A gallery with a primary focus on Latin American talents. Will be showcasing a special 20th anniversary exhibition of photographs by Guggenheim Award- winning Brazilian Photographer Valdir Cruz.  Presences is Cruz’s seventh solo exhibit at Throckmorton Fine Art in New York City. In this exhibit Cruz will be displaying a selection of vintage gelatin silver prints from three projects:

Faces of the Rainforest: Cruz was awarded the Guggenheim Fellowship in 1996 for this project. The photographs shown are of indigenous people in secluded areas of Brazil and Venezuelan Amazon rainforests. Cruz did not just visit these tribes. He spent five months living and participating in their everyday lives.

The Water’s Way (O caminho das águas): Cruz a native of Paraná captures the ethereal energy of the waterfalls that are in the state.

Roots (Raízes): Sao Paulo a Brazilian state, commissioned Cruz to examine and photograph the spectacular trees in the region.  The assortment of photos resulted in astonishing pictures.

Valdir Cruz’s photographs exhibit an intimate telling of these unique spaces around Brazil. The intimacy of these projects extends past the photos being displayed. What the viewer will take from these images is the relationship Cruz has with his home.

The exhibition Presences runs from December 7, 2017 – February 24, 2018. For more information visit Throckmorton Fine Art (www.throckmorton-nyc.com)
