The Brooklyn Navy Yard’s ingenuity and creative community have long been lauded by New York City officials. Now, visitors and passersby can see it all with their own eyes in a half-mile photo exhibition displayed outside the modern industrial complex.
Broadway World reported:
“The exhibition features 15 different variations of the theme [‘Atmosphere for Invention: Art & Object’] each panel highlighting eight to fifteen artists or creative businesses with photographs illustrating the artistry, craftsmanship and skilled production that unfolds every day across the Yard’s 300-acre site. With more than 500 businesses ranging from manufacturing to technology to biomedical sciences to fine art, the focal point of the exhibition is the Yard’s extensive range of innovation across multiple sectors.”
The 118 panel art walk spans just under half-a-mile down Flushing Avenue from Vanderbilt Avenue to Elliott Place (or Building 77 to Wegmans). In addition to highlighting current tenants and their creative works, the exhibition also gives historical context to the Navy Yard’s “atmosphere of invention” since its founding as a shipyard in 1801.
