Daily Express, Netflights Laud TWA Hotel, One of Best Airport Hotels in the World

JFK Airport s TWA Hotel continues to capture the imagination, even during one of air travel s darkest periods in history. UK tabloid Daily Express and online travel company Netflights teamed up to choose their favorite airport hotels for when we are jetting off again. New York s flight-terminal-turned-hotel is at the top of the list, with Daily Express writing: Housed within the space-age and iconic TWA terminal building, it’s a celebration of everything from the era, from retro phones and furnishings to vintage amenities in the bathrooms and mid-century uniforms for the staff. Guests can also dine in one of six restaurants or knock back a cocktail in eight different bars – one of which can be found within a converted 1958 Lockheed Constellation, an iconic aircraft from an era of aviation defined by legendary TWA founder and flight pioneer Howard Hughes. Previously, AFAR wrote: The TWA Hotel is full of retro details that nod to the terminal s past, but the 512 guest rooms are actually located in a pair of new buildings that flank the historic terminal. In addition to the midcentury modern inspired furniture and lighting reminiscent of the project s 1962 origins, the rooms feature other aesthetically pleasing details like tambour walls and walnut martini bars made by a family-owned business in Ohio s Amish Country. The minibar is stocked with period-appropriate snacks like Tab soda and Big Hunk candy bars. Prior to its 2019 opening, Duggal s H. Joseph Smith worked with TWA Hotel owner-operator MCR/MORSE Development to deliver much of the artwork seen throughout the guest rooms, lobby and public spaces in the hotel. The Duggal team created 1,250 gallery Plexi pieces, utilizing reproductions of the original silk screen TWA posters by David Klein and installing them room by room and floor by floor.
