With Downtown Brooklyn undergoing a building boom and business renaissance, a cool new corner store has opened up shop in the neighborhood. Is this the next generation of the New York bodega?
Located at 294 Livingston Street in Boerum Hill, Dépanneur serves made-to-order sandwiches with local and premium ingredients, plus coffee, tea, and other must-haves for a day of exploration in “DTBK” and its many surrounding enclaves. There is another location in Williamsburg.
The name, Dépanneur, is actually that for a convenience store, independently run corner shop, general store or deli in Quebec, Canada.
“We like to think of ourselves as a better bodega, hence our name Dépanneur, but we're not your typical corner store,” the owners write. “We strive to carry a collection of local, delicious, and innovative products from Brooklyn, NY state and around the world as well as sandwiches made with the highest quality ingredients sourced locally whenever possible and coffee beverages made with Toby's Estate beans and farm fresh milk.”
Undoubtedly, the visuals here help set the vibe. Duggal’s Ryan Shorr consulted with Dépanneur to produce the menu boards, window graphics, door graphics, and other signage drawing customers into the store.
Knowing we have this quick and delicious spot just a mile away from our Brooklyn Navy Yard headquarters makes lunch a lot easier!
