Industry News
Drew Tal is a photographer who long ago fell in love with the faces of ethnic people, and that love has endured. From that initial fascination, he discovered growing up in the Israel of the 1960s where enormous diversity and cultural variety bloomed, Drew learned to use his camera and assorted post-production tools to conduct investigations of the ways and means that culture is expressed on and through the body. There is much rich heritage Drew has found to explore. He uses the lens of religious practice, myths and legends, and sexual expression on his extensive travels throughout Europe, Asia, Africa and the Americas.
Drew came of age in Israel, but settled in New York in the 80s. Working for a couture fashion house pushed him toward photographing fashion models and then ultimately he found his way to the ethnic characters that have become the foundation of his practice. He joined the Emmanuel Fremin Gallery in 2006, and thereupon became a full-time artist. Drew now shows in galleries around the world, with recent exhibitions in Paris, Dubai, Hong Kong and Istanbul. He is excited by the prospect of using Duggal’s light boxes and SEG frames to display his work.
