Digital painter Gary Kaleda has spent over a decade exploring the intersection of traditional painting and technological innovation, resulting in exhibitions from coast to coast. Working with Duggal Visual Solutions, using both new and high end techniques in fine art printing and finishing, the partnership has produced exquisite results.
Most recently, 34 pieces, from 10 years of partnership with Duggal, are on view as part of Anderson Contemporary’s exhibition, Forward Slash / Technology, Transcendence & Tea. Displayed in a monumentally airy and spacious lobby of a 41-story tower near the South Street Seaport, the works’ contemporary feel is complimented by its architectural surroundings.
Comprising digital brushstrokes, marks, lines, and gestures that appear as both paint and pixels, Kaleda’s images feature sculptural, figurative and abstract subjects that inspire a close look. After several rounds of re-working prints with Duggal staff, the final images achieve a high end finish as either Vibrachrome ™ prints or Duraflex prints face mounted to high gloss clear plexiglass, both backed with aluminum braces.
Kaleda’s use of some of Duggal’s most custom techniques results in a very particular type of perfection, a result of his attention to detail and the collaborative oversight of his projects by Duggal Sales Rep, Bob Kapoor, and Retail Sales and Project Coordinator, Ruchika Attri.
With a color palette that spans from vibrant pink, grass green and Caribbean blue to black, grey and earth tones reminiscent of clay, digitized and framed in a clean contemporary style, Kaleda’s brushstrokes embrace both technology and the human touch.
Forward Slash / Technology, Transcendence & Tea is on view at 180 Maiden Lane through April 17, 2017.
