Fashion Fact #1- Perfume

Perfume comes from the Latin words per and fume, or “through smoke.” One of the oldest recorded uses of perfume was the burning of incense and herbs in religious rituals thousands of years ago. Egyptians were the first people to integrate the use of perfume into society in a broader sense. Various oils and incense were used with such enthusiasm that Romans remarked that the powerful smell was almost to the point of being overwhelming. Perfume’s original use was predominantly during religious ceremonies. Over time, as civilizations met and exchanged customs, perfume became less associated with ceremonies of religion and more with the status and beauty of individuals.
