The Belt: Since the Bronze Age, men and women have been wearing belts. From the late 19th century up to World War I, the belt was a decorative part of the military uniform for men. The belt was worn at the waist and gave the wearer a slimmer appearance. In the early 1920s, as pants began to be worn lower on the hips, men and woman would wear belts to hold their pants up. Today, belts are worn by men and women as an accessory.
