Brooch: The earliest form of a brooch may have been the thorn, and it was used to fasten two ends of cloth that men would wear over their body. The appearance of the brooch evolved over the years and soon the pin replaced the thorn. Later an ornament covered the pin and the spring mechanism. Over time, the brooch became more intricate, colorful, larger, and precious metals and stones were used. Today, brooches are worn as an accessory to hold scarves and shawls together or they are worn alone as a pin.
