Large Format Graphics Art scene
Through Re:Construction, a public art program run by The Downtown Alliance, artist Maya Barkaj worked with Duggal senior art executive Marina Stark to create a large format print that joined photographs of pedestrian traffic light icons from cities around the world, demonstrating the diversity of such a familiar global concept. The print covered three city blocks of construction barricades at 99 Church Street, creating a unique setting for public art that joined architecture with original and whimsical design. A six-color process created the black continuous-tone photographic quality panels, which the images were set against, and separate digital files were created for each panel to ensure that there were no visible seams. The 585 feet wide and 8 feet high piece was installed downtown in January 2010 and will be up in the former World Trade Center area for an entire year.
