Fordham Football Raising Funds for Lombardi Football Office
Vince Lombardi—namesake of the NFL’s Super Bowl trophy and arguably the greatest football coach of all time—got his start at Fordham University, where he arrived in 1933 “with a football scholarship in hand and a Brooklyn-sized chip on his shoulder.”
The kid from Sheepshead Bay excelled as a player at Fordham and would go on to attain legend status as a coach after leading the Green Bay Packers to victory in the first two Super Bowls (1966 and 1967). In 1967, he received the university’s highest honor, the Insignis Medal, en route to being inducted into the Fordham Athletics Hall of Fame in 1970.
In 2020, Fordham Football is raising funds to recognize Lombardi’s accomplishments and leadership by naming a newly built football office in his honor. Prior to the fundraising campaign, Duggal Visual Solutions highlighted Fordham’s rich football history in a large format mural installed at Rose Hill Gymnasium. Read more.
