After a fierce debate between presidential hopefuls Hillary Clinton and Bernie Sanders at the Duggal Greenhouse April 14, Clinton returned to the Brooklyn Navy Yard event space June 7 to declare victory in the Democratic primary election. It was a historic evening as the former first lady, former senator, and former secretary of state became the first woman nominated for President of the United States with a major political party.
Following a video tribute to the trailblazing women before her and a nod to Sanders’ efforts, Clinton gave her victory speech to a sea of supporters holding signs, American flags, and cell phones.
“Thanks to you, we’ve reached a milestone: the first time in our nation’s history that a woman will be a major party’s nominee,” she said. “Tonight’s victory is not about one person. It belongs to generations of women and men who struggled and sacrificed and made this moment possible.”
Clinton added, "There are still ceilings to break for women and men, for all of us. But don't let anyone tell you that great things can't happen in America. Barriers can come down, justice and equality can win. Our history has moved in that direction – slowly at times, but unmistakably thanks to generation of Americans who refused to give up or back down."
As hosts, Duggal Visual Solutions and the Duggal Greenhouse will say that the evening transcended politics, and the experience extended far beyond event production. It wasn’t about who won, who will win, or whom we will vote for. It was about being a part of American history and witnessing the jubilation that a milestone brings. We are proud, grateful and humbled that we were chosen for an event of such magnitude.
