World Trade Center: The World Trade Center complex (seven buildings including the 110-story twin towers) was designed in the early 1960s and opened in the spring of 1973. On September 11th, 2001 two hijacked planes flew into the complex, one in each tower, in a terrorist attack.
The site is currently being re-built with five new skyscrapers as well as a memorial to the nearly 3,000 men and women who lost their lives in the attacks. One sky scraper has been completed and the other 4 are expected to be done by 2020.
