In an age of fast-paced living, we’re seeing a wave of interesting businesses capitalizing on the subscription box model.
Perhaps most known is Stitch Fix, a personal styling service for women. Stitch Fix sends monthly subscribers a custom assortment of clothing and accessories based on an initial “style profile” survey. Each box enacts a $20 styling fee (essentially a subscription fee). Upon receiving the box, you have three days to try the items on. At that time you can choose to pay for and keep the items you like while returning the ones you don’t in a pre-paid mailing bag that comes with the box.
In a similar system powered by subscription box marketplace Cratejoy, a new startup called Photo Box is preparing for its U.S. launch in September. Photographers who sign up receive a monthly goodie box of photo-related gadgets, accessories, special offers and inspirational items.
PetaPixel gave a glimpse into a sample Photo Box they received, which included a mini portfolio album, a bottle of clean fluid and a digital exposure set among other items.
According to PetaPixel, Photo Box plans to launch four different products: Photo Box, Photo Box Pro, Analog Box and Bokeh Box. The service is geared toward amateurs and pros alike, and is also being marketed as a great gift idea for your photographer friends. Unlike Stitch Fix, it doesn’t seem like there’s an option to return items, which isn’t necessarily a bad thing considering you get to keep everything for a flat monthly fee.
What a fun idea – we’re interested to see what type of response it gets. Let us know if you try it out!
