Press Release:

Born in Germany, Christine Matthäi moved to New York in the early 1980s and to Shelter Island in 1992. She started her career as a photo journalist and worked as a correspondent for foreign magazines and publications. Having been a close part of the New York City art scene for many years, she eventually decided to pursue her own art photography full time 10 years ago. Since then her work has been exhibited internationally.

Typically Christine Matthäi draws her inspiration from nature, seeking to capture the unexpected in colour and texture, thus revealing a hidden poetic dimension of the immediate reality. Her Shelter Island Light and Sea photography are contemplative abstractions of the magnificent interplay of air, light and water into shifting colors on the East End shorelines.

There will be an exhibition titled LIGHT & SEA at Handwerklab, 36 N Ferry Rd. in Shelter Island from July 20th – August 13th, 2012 with an opening reception at the gallery on Friday, July 20th, 2012 from 5pm – 8pm.

The exhibition is sponsored by Duggal Visual Solutions and Broadway Video.
