Choosing the Right DSLR camera
Today there are hundreds of choices when it comes to picking a camera. Here are a few things to keep in mind when deciding on a DSLR camera:
Price: Determine how much you would like to spend. Generally, DSLR cameras run from approximately $500 up to extremely high prices. Set a budget for the camera and the accessories (lenses, batteries, memory cards, bags, filters, extended warrantees etc.);
Use: Decide what kind of photography you will be using the camera for mostly. Sports photography? Macro photography? General photography?
Resolution: How will you use your images? Are you looking to print in small sizes or large sizes? The larger you want your photographs to be printed, the more megapixels you will want.
Semi-Auto Modes: Many lower end DSLR cameras come with a variety of shooting modes such as portrait, sports, night, macro etc. If you rely on these features on your point and shoot you might consider getting them on a DSLR too. Automated exposure controls only give partial control. If you are looking for full control, look for a DSLR that has a fully manual mode.
Another important feature to look for is whether or not the camera has manual focus. Most cameras today have auto focus, but manual focus gives the photographer full control of depth of field.
