In our previous product spotlight on lightboxes, we introduced LUMIPIXELS™, bringing animation into the picture. Let’s take a closer look at this new generation of lightboxes from the Duggal InnoLab.
The Vision
Duggal has been driving innovation through photographic printing for more than 50 years. Our evolution from classic photo lab to world-class production house aligns us with renowned brands, esteemed creatives and inspired leaders collectively pushing the boundaries of creativity in art, design and commerce.
Headquartered in Duggal’s sprawling Brooklyn Navy Yard campus, the InnoLab is an award-winning team of creative technologists and multimedia experts collected from a wide gamut of digital and analog practices. With lightboxes becoming one of Duggal’s top-selling solutions, the InnoLab took the initiative to elevate these popular visual displays even further.
“We imagined making a static illuminated image emote in a beautiful and artful way,” said Glenn Rabbach, Vice President and Creative Director of Duggal Visual Solutions. “Everyone has seen large digital billboards; however, no technology existed to craft a hybrid of video walls and a static light box.
The Execution
By employing proprietary light tiles, LUMIPIXELS™ create a uniquely harmonious blend of light and graphics. Light emotes through pre-programmed sequences of pure white or full-color animation filtered by fabric.
Aside from their entrancing visuals, LUMIPIXELS™ offer an evergreen and scalable solution to creating engaging environments. They are self-launching and self-loading, meaning they can be reskinned and reprogrammed with ease to formulate a brand-new display within the same base unit.
Instant Acclaim
In 2018, LUMIPIXELS™ made their public debut during NYCxDESIGN, where the InnoLab recreated its sleek, award-winning architectural display with Hunter Douglas in the heart of Times Square.
The winner of the “Most Innovative Booth” Award at the 2018 Architectural Digest Design Show, the installation blended digital content with a traditional soft fabric light box. The combination of static and moving imagery provided a dramatic, scenic background to Hunter Douglas’ AI-controlled window treatments. A companion display featured a collaboration with Swiss artist/director Fabian Oefner using LUMIPIXELS™ to bring a new sense of motion to his striking art photography.
