Luring the who’s who of fashion nearly 40 miles north of Manhattan at the height of New York Fashion Week, Ralph Lauren staged perhaps one of the most unique and memorable runway shows in NYFW history at his own garage in Bedford, New York. Don’t let the word “garage” mislead you – Lauren’s is more like a multilevel museum of rare and vintage cars.
“My cars have always been an inspiration to me. I see them as moving art,” Lauren said. “My women’s collection for fall 2017 connects the elements of the speed, style and beauty of these handcrafted vehicles with the very modern, yet timeless spirit of the clothes. There is a sleekness, an innate sexiness and power to shapes sculpted out of high-tech patent leathers and high-gloss silks.”
To synchronize Ralph Lauren’s 888 Madison Ave. flagship with the runway theme at his estate, Duggal Visual Solutions transformed the store’s lobby into a gallery of classic car images around one of Lauren’s cherry-red Ferraris. Duggal’s Shawn Hallinan, who has been working with Ralph Lauren for more than 25 years, consulted with the designer’s creative team to develop both a set of elegant yet sturdy display walls and the collection of photos printed to match the Ferrari’s vibrant shade of red. The exhibition covered existing shelving, millwork and molding without leaving any trace of damage, and was installed outside of store hours with no disruption to daily retail business.
