“The women on ‘Empire’ are always turned out,” writes the New York Daily News. “Especially star Taraji P. Henson, who plays Cookie. Even when she brandishes a gun, her manicure is perfect.”
Now, fans of Fox’s hit TV series can channel Cookie’s combination of grit and glamour with a new co-branded nail polish kit from celebrity manicurist Deborah Lippmann. Available at Sephora.com and Nordstrom.com, the limited edition, three-shade “Empire” collection is inspired by Cookie’s fierce lifestyle and named after the show’s anthemic records. “Hustle Hard” is a shimmering shade of fuchsia, while “War of the Roses” brings a deep, hard-hitting, metallic red. “Power of the Empire” is a fame-worthy, glittery gold.
"I was mostly inspired by Cookie when creating the colors," Lippmann told Elle. "I wanted them to complement her powerful and assertive wardrobe as well as make a statement on their own."
Before any packaged product ever goes to production, there is a meticulous “design and refine” process that happens behind the scenes. Lippmann, who has also created nail polishes for “Girls” and “True Blood,” called on Jake Bialos and Joachim Hackl of Duggal Packaging Solutions to engineer a highly impactful foil effect and create two packaging comps for the “Empire” set. It was the first time that Lippmann saw how her product would look on store shelves, and a visual indicator of the brand equity to be gained from the product’s release.
