As part of the Salmagundi Club‘s on-going dialogue with the military community, U.S. Air Force veteran and Duggal’s very own photographer-extraordinaire Omar Columbus has curated From There to Here , an exhibit of the art and accompanying words of military veterans or their family members. Omar Columbus with his photograph New Yawk State of Mind from “Figuratively Speaking”: An Exhibition of Portraiture & Figurative Art./caption Every member of the U.S. Armed Forces and their families embark on a journey of experiences that are both shared by many, and specific to everyone. Those experiences can be complex and enduring perhaps lifelong. Their impact and intensity may be hard to grasp for those outside the military community. Many want to tell their stories, but those conversations can be difficult to start. Often, art can be a starting place to communicate with others. Beyond the exhibit s art and related words, the exhibition reception will feature selected poetry readings from NYC-area veterans as well as a dance performance by Exit12, an outstanding NYC-based veteran dance company. Mark your calendars for ‘From There to Here’ on view in the Patrons’ Gallery at the historic Salmagundi Club. The exhibit is open to the public at no charge, February 10 through February 21, 2020. The gallery hours are Monday thru Friday 1 6 PM, and Saturday and Sunday 1 5 PM. The opening reception will be Wednesday, February 12, 2020 from 6:30pm 8:15pm.
