This Dior spring-summer 2023 collection is a tribute to Jos phine Baker, the African-American singer and dancer who arrived from the United States in the mid-1920s to the cosmopolitan city of Paris, which was a dream destination for artists, writers, and fashion designers. It celebrates black and mixed-race women, who evolved into powerful figureheads by breaking racial barriers and going against the grain.
Envisioned specifically for the show, the staging and paintings by renowned African American artist, Mickalene Thomas, epitomize a new pantheon of women, born out of a conversation dedicated to the importance of black and mixed-race female figures who have become exemplary by choosing to think and act differently.

Image courtesy of Christian Dior SE Led by Sr. Account Executive Carole Garcia, the Duggal team was proud to collaborate closely with Bureau Betak Paris for Dior, and the artist s studio to bring these beautiful paintings to life.
Working under an aggressive timeline, close attention was paid to the choice of eco-friendly, fire-retardant material and print method, that would allow over forty 10ft x 12ft prints to be accurately stretched onto wood frames creating the continuous walls on the runway.
Image courtesy of Christian Dior SE Due to the complex nature of these layered images, it was determined high-resolution dye sublimation printing on Poly Duck Fabric would provide the exceptional image quality and color representation required by the artist s work.
Duggal s large format and retouching departments played an integral role in planning, proofing, and bringing all the elements together to successfully meet the client s deadline. The prints were then carefully packed and flown to India where hand embroidery embellished the art with sequins, to capture the shimmering look of the Dior collection.
