The Brooklyn Navy Yard’s ingenuity and creative community have long been lauded by New York City officials. Now, visitors and passersby can see it all with their own eyes in a half-mile photo exhibition displayed outside the modern industrial complex.
Broadway World reported:
“The exhibition features 15 different variations of the theme [‘Atmosphere for Invention: Art & Object’] each panel highlighting eight to fifteen artists or creative businesses with photographs illustrating the artistry, craftsmanship and skilled production that unfolds every day across the Yard's 300-acre site. With more than 500 businesses ranging from manufacturing to technology to biomedical sciences to fine art, the focal point of the exhibition is the Yard's extensive range of innovation across multiple sectors.”
The 118 panel art walk spans just under half-a-mile down Flushing Avenue from Vanderbilt Avenue to Elliott Place (or Building 77 to Wegmans). In addition to highlighting current tenants and their creative works, the exhibition also gives historical context to the Navy Yard’s “atmosphere of invention” since its founding as a shipyard in 1801.
Duggal Visual Solutions is proud to have contributed to the production of this amazing exhibition. The 9ft x 5ft panels are made from mesh supreme with reinforced hems featuring silver grommets every 12ft so it could be attached to the Navy Yard Fence. As one of the earliest BKNY tenants, we’re thrilled to be a part of the thriving Brooklyn Navy Yard community and call it home to our corporate campus, including the first printing facility to receive LEED Gold certification and our adjacent, award-winning Brooklyn venue, the Duggal Greenhouse.
"The Navy Yard has long been a center for innovation and this new show captures that creative spirit our tenants are known for," Johanna Greenbaum, Chief Development Officer of the Brooklyn Navy Yard Development Corporation, told Broadway World. "The Yard's centuries-long history of invention and industry lives on through many of the entrepreneurial and creative Brooklyners that work and create on our campus, many of whom bridge traditional techniques with digital methods. This show shines a light on their efforts and we are excited to showcase the diverse talent here at Yard with the world around us."
