Material waste will always remain as a byproduct of commercial printing. Alongside creating captivating visuals for clients, Duggal is committed to reducing as much waste produced as possible from our processes. Our visual installations add an artistic touch to the world. Still, none of that matters unless we work to keep that world clean and healthy for future generations. In 2022, we recycled 77.79% of our waste and have worked towards transitioning away from outdated practices towards more sustainable ones, especially when it comes to printing. These are just some of the latest sustainable printing methods that can be employed by printing companies, which are used by Duggal today!
Volatile organic compounds (VOCs) are released by some inks during the printing process – mainly those composed of petroleum. Not only is their release detrimental to the environment because of their air pollutant qualities, but VOCs are also suspected carcinogens, harmful to the employees that handle them. VOC-free inks have no petroleum in their composition. Vegetable-based inks and water-based inks, or UV printing are all wonderful examples of VOC-free alternatives. Using petroleum-free inks also makes the machine cleaning process less wasteful and harmful as they require less harsh solvents. At Duggal, we are proud to become a 100% VOC-free ink printing company taking steps toward a more sustainable future!
Reducing the amount of paper consumed through printing should present a top priority across the industry. At Duggal, we make it a point to recycle any paper or materials used throughout the printing or installation process. New paper is often required for printing due to stronger fibers that make printed materials last longer. Still, using recycled paper reduces the number of natural materials consumed by extending the fiber supply. Compared to virgin paper, recycled paper uses between 28% and 70% less energy and increases carbon emission reductions from 20% to 50%. Nature conservation and reduced water consumption are also some of the many benefits of recycling paper. While new paper remains necessary, it is still possible to incorporate recycled paper into printing to alleviate the pressure we place on the environment.
Additional impact can be made using material that is 100% recyclable after use. Duggal is continuously researching and sourcing new materials to increase our sustainability impact.
