An Inside Look at the Staten Island Zoo’s Brand-New Aquarium

DVS Project
Summer visitors at the Staten Island Zoo got a first look at the zoo’s impressively renovated aquarium during a soft opening held the weekend of July 28, 2018.
The project broke ground in 2016, with William J. Frew Jr., president of the Staten Island Zoological Society, touting “a dynamic and colorful space” that would “surround and immerse visitors with vibrant marine life.” The renovation certainly delivers on that promise, replacing 15 smaller tanks with four floor-to-ceiling tanks each holding 3,300 gallons of water and housing awe-inspiring sea creatures from all waters of the globe.
"It's like a vacation on a budget," Brian Morris, Vice President of Marketing and Development at the Staten Island Zoo, told the Staten Island Advance. "One minute you're in the Atlantic and the next in the Pacific, without even leaving the Island."
As the new aquarium began to take shape, Duggal Visual Solutions and Kamhi Kolor had the honors of “wallpapering” the entire aquatic wing with lively graphics educating viewers on the importance of marine life to our planet, with light, actionable tips for making a difference.
