New York City received its designation as the 25th Coast Guard City in a May 10, 2018 ceremony at City Hall with Mayor Bill de Blasio and Coast Guard Commandant Adm. Paul Zukunft.
Inside the City Hall rotunda, a collection of eight framed canvas prints brought a visual element to the honor, which was established by Congress in 1998 to recognize cities that exemplify a strong commitment to supporting and celebrating the United States Coast Guard (USCG) men, women and families stationed in their communities. Duggal’s Faith Young consulted with USCG Sector New York–the largest operational field command on the East Coast, and a critical response team in historic events such as Hurricane Sandy and the 9/11 terrorist attacks–to produce the artwork. While the City Hall exhibition was only for the day, the images are now proudly displayed permanently on base in Staten Island.
