Duggal at Global Shop 2016 – Meet Our Artist – Raissa Venables

Industry News
Raissa Venables uses her photography to illustrate her experience of an environment, rather than simply displaying the space and its architecture. She does not give her viewer realistic images of existing places. Rather, she turns rooms and houses inside out, stretching and distorting them so that they seem almost alive, so that they seem more to us as they initially do to Raissa: places where an uncanny narrative is being told at just the level of a whisper. Raissa makes large-scale, color saturated images that tempt the viewer to enter the space and listen with her.
With degrees from Kansas City Art Institute, Bard College, and The School of Visual Arts, Raissa has trained extensively in photography. Now primarily based in Germany, where she is represented by two galleries, Raissa shows her work internationally. Her work has been purchased for several major collections, including: the Sammlung Knauthe in Berlin, the Staatliche Kunstsammlung in Dresden, the UBS Collection in Switzerland, and the Nelson-Atkins Museum / Hall Family Foundation in Kansas City, Missouri. Raissa will use a variety of Duggal’s innovative printing techniques to produce her stunning work.
