Duggal Visual Solutions, Your Art Gallery Launch NYC Salt Sponsorship

New York City’s underserved youth are tapping into exciting, rewarding careers in the creative industry with the help of NYC Salt, a growing arts program boasting an impressive 100-percent high school graduation and college acceptance rate.

As NYC Salt continues to expand its professional photography classes, college preparatory workshops and career resources, Duggal Visual Solutions is proud to lead the organization’s visual presence as its printing and graphics sponsor. The sponsorship officially kicked off in June 2019 at NYC Salt’s annual photography show; the Duggal Big Picture Foundation provided large format graphics for the event and posters mailed to Salt supporters, while Duggal’s sister company, Your Art Gallery, developed a corresponding online exhibition for the artists to sell their images.

“Everybody in the visual industry recognizes Duggal,” said Alicia Hansen, founder and executive director of NYC Salt. “It’s extraordinary for us to be associated with their name, and so incredibly helpful to receive their in-kind services for promotional materials, invitations, and graphics at our events throughout the year.”

An accomplished photographer with more than 20 years of experience, Hansen realized that photography and an understanding of commercial visual art could be a catalyst for opportunity. “The students hail from neighborhoods that don’t typically get an artistic hearing, at least not for a livable wage: Hell’s Kitchen and parts of Queens, the south Bronx and Brownsville,” Bittersweet Monthly wrote in a special feature on NYC Salt

Perhaps most uplifting in Salt’s mission is the artistic community it is creating. Bittersweet wrote:

“Salt has developed an extensive alumni network that still contributes to Salt shows, mentors Salt students, and, for many, serves as a crucial form of family. When Alicia is pitched a gig, she regularly hands them off to alumni… It is telling that everyone who participates talks about Salt as a family – not a program – one where alumni want to give back and stay involved.”

Hansen tells us that NYC Salt is making its alumni development even more robust as we speak, from establishing partnerships with leading advertising agencies to enhancing Salt’s presence on Your Art Gallery, where emerging artists are able to monetize their passion.

“We’re with our students all through high school, and oftentimes, through college,” Hansen said. “It’s important to us that we’re empowering them to continually take the next step in their careers—and in life.”

Eighty-six percent of NYC Salt students—remember, 100 percent of them have graduated high school and gone on to higher education—are the first in their families to attend college. These are inspiring, uplifting success stories that everyone can applaud and nurture.
